Abstract
Reaction of Cp3AnCl complexes (Cp = η5- C5H5; An = Th, U) and (CH3C5H4)3ThCl with CpM(CO)2Na (M = Fe, Ru) yields the corresponding metal-metal bonded compounds Cp3An-M(Cp)(CO)2 and (CH3C5H4)3Th-M(Cp)(CO)2. Electron-releasing tendencies follow the order Cp3U- > Cp3Th- ≫ [(CH3)5C5]2Th(X)-(X = Cl, I, CH3). Evidence for hindered rotation about the metal-metal bonds and facile cleavage by alcohols and ketones is presented.
