Abstract

Manganese substituted polyoxometalates (POMs), such as Li12[MnII 2ZnW(ZnW9O 34)2] were effective catalysts for the oxidation of alkanes to ketones with ozone in an aqueous reaction medium; a green intermediate compound observable by UV-VIS and ESR at -78 °C was postulated to be a reactive manganese ozonide species.
