Abstract
In this study, the binuclear constrained geometry catalyst (CGC) (3,3′-μ-CH2CH2) {n5-indenyl) [1-SiMe2(tBuN)] (ZrMe2)}2 [EBI(CGCZrMe2)2 (Zr2) and trityl bisborate (Ph3(C+)2[1,4-(C6F5)3BC6F4 B(C6F5)3]2-(B2) were synthesized and characterized to serve as new types of binuclear single-site Ziegler-Natta catalysts and cocatalysts for olefin polymerization. The monometallic metallocene complex (3-CH2CH3-indenyl) [1-SiMe2(tBuN)]ZrMe2 (Zr1) was synthesized as a control for studies of cooperativity in ethylene polymerization. Polymerization studies show that these catalysts and cocatalysts are highly active in mediating ethylene polymerization.
