CALCULATION OF QUASIBINARY AND QUASITERNARY OXYNITRIDE SYSTEMS.

Abstract

Phase diagrams for the quasibinary systems Si//3N//4-SiO//2, Y//2O//3-Si//3N//4, Y//2O//3-SiO//2, Ce//2O//3-Si//3N//4, and Ce//2O//3-SiO//2 are recalculated to illustrate a method by which these and more complex equilibria can be elucidated from thermodynamic data. New results for the quasiternary systems SiO//2-MgO-Si//3N//4, SiO//2-Y//2O//3-Si//3N//4, and SiO//2-Ce//2O//3-Si//3N//4 are derived from these phase diagrams and presented as component pairwise equilibria and complete isothermal sections of the appropriate ternary phase diagrams. These sections are compared with experimental data from the literature, and good agreement was obtained in the cases of SiO//2-MgO-Si//3N//4 and SiO//2-Ce//2O//3-Si//3N//4. Refs.
