Abstract

This paper discusses aspects of carrier multiplication (multiexciton generation by single photons) in semiconductor nanocrystals such as its mechanism, competing relaxation channels, ultimate efficiencies for photon-to-exciton conversion and implications of this process in photovoltaics.
