Coulomb effects in femtosecond nonlinear transmission of semiconductor nanocrystals

Abstract

The dynamics of carrier‐induced absorption changes in CdSe nanocrystals excited by 2 and 4 eV photons are investigated with femtosecond pump and probe spectroscopy. After excitation with 4 eV photons a transient red shift of the lowest optical transition is observed in the initial phase of carrier relaxation. This shift is attributed to the Coulomb two‐electron‐hole‐pair interaction (a biexciton effect).
