Abstract

Resolved electron-electron coupling is observed in the room temperature solution EPR spectra of the spin-labeled copper complex (3-(N-(3-2,2,5,5-tetramethylpyrroline-1-oxyl)amido)-4,9-dimethyl-5,8- diazadodeca-4,8-diene-2,11-dione)-copper(II). Values of the coupling constant at room temperature vary with solvent (toluene, CH2Cl2,THF, 1:1 THF-CH2Cl2, CHCl3, pyridine, Me2SO, 1:1 toluene-acetone, and 10:1 toluene-THF), ranging from 475 G (0.0454 cm-1) in THF to 520 G (0.0496 cm-1) in Me2SO. The coupling constant is also temperature dependent with values changing from 525 G (0.0501 cm-1) at -20°C to 472 G (0.0451 cm-1) at 119°C in toluene solution.
