Abstract

Symmetrized Relativistic Augmented Plane Wave calculations for thorium using Kohn-Sham-Gaspár exchange which are found about 5 eV above the Fermi energy metal demonstrate that the 5f{hook} states must be considered as band states, unlike the 4f{hook} states in the rare-earth metals which are localized states.
