The Coulomb potential at sites near the (100), (110), and (111) surfaces of inverse, random and normal spinels are evaluated for semi-infinite crystals containing only one surface. From the potential, the electrostatic contributions to the surface energy are evaluated for these surfaces. It is found that the (100) surface is electrostatically the most stable surface.
