Thermal and photodegradation of acetone on TiO 2 and N-doped TiO 2

Abstract

The thermal and photodegradation of acetone on TiO 2 and N-doped TiO 2 was studied. FTIR was used to monitor the loss of acetone and the production of CO 2. Carbon-containing surface bound intermediates were implicated in the reaction mechanism leading to CO 2 production. Visible light photocatalytic activity was shown for N-doped high surface area TiO 2. This is an abstract of a paper presented at the 230th ACS National Meeting (Washington, DC 8/28/2005-9/1/2005).
