Thermal and photodegradation of acetone on TiO2 and N-doped TiO2

Abstract

The thermal and photodegradation of acetone on TiO2 and N-doped TiO2 has been studied. FTIR was used to monitor the loss of acetone and the production of CO2. Carbon-containing surface bound intermediates are implicated in the reaction mechanism leading to CO2 production. Visible light photocatalytic activity has been shown for N-doped high surface area TiO2. This is an abstract of a paper presented at the 230th ACS National Meeting (Washington, DC 8/28/2005-9/1/2005).
