Abstract
We have studied Coherent Anti-Stokes Raman Spectra (CARS) of trans-ß-carotene in chloroform solution at various concentrations. We have determined the nonresonant molecular third-order nonlinear optical response of this conjugated molecule in chloroform to be 〈γ〉(-591nm,650nm,-721.4nm,650nm) = (13±4)×10-33esu.
