Toughening of polymers by self-assembling molecules

Abstract

A report on the toughening of polymers by self-assembling molecules was presented. The small quantities of self assembling molecules known as dendron rod-coils (DRC) imparted higher orientational order in drawn polystyrene (PS) and improve impact strength. The increased orientation in mechanically drawn PS specimens scaffolded by DRC was revealed by the greater birefringence relative to pure PS samples.
